SCRIPPS RANCH – Assemblymember Brian Maienschein secured $4 million for ADA improvements at the park – over half of the $7.6 million total in funding for the project. This will be the first major upgrade to the park in 30 years and will bring new amenities, such as accessible fitness equipment and two new children’s play areas. The restrooms, concession stand, sidewalks, bleachers, and parking lot will also be part of the park renovations.
“We could not have achieved this without the dedication and tenacity of Bob Ilko and Mark Sorenson, as well as members of the Scripps Ranch Civic Association, Scripps Ranch Planning Group, and the Scripps Ranch Recreation Council,” stated Asm. Maienschein as he noted the decade-long advocacy effort to enhance Jerabek Park at a press conference on Thursday, September 21st. Also in attendance were Mayor Todd Gloria and City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert as well as several community members and Parks and Rec employees with the City of San Diego.
“High-quality parks are essential amenities in all neighborhoods, and these improvements to Jerabek Park exemplify our ongoing efforts to upgrade outdated parks and open new parks in communities that need them,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “I’m grateful to Assemblymember Maienschein for securing $4 million in state funding – more than half the total construction cost – for this project.”
“I was happy to support this project at every opportunity, and the changes and accessibility improvements to our park facilities will transform the experiences of children and families at Jerabek Park today, and for future generations,” added City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert.
