Assemblymember Brian Maienschein’s Bill to Help Protect Communities from Sexually Violent Predators Signed by Governor

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Brian Maienschein’s AB 1641 was signed by the Governor today. AB 1641 will prioritize community safety by requiring sexually violent predators (SVPs) to be 24/7 GPS monitored while on conditional release.

Maienschein released the following statement regarding the signing of AB 1641:

“Sexually violent predators have proven themselves to be among some of the most dangerous criminals,” said Assemblymember Brian Maienschein. “When Rancho Bernardo was selected as the proposed placement location of an SVP last year, I immediately began researching the conditional release process. Loopholes were uncovered that put our communities at risk, which is why I authored AB 1641. My bill will ensure that law enforcement are provided with an additional tool to help protect our communities from these criminals.”
