Bill To Declare Diwali A State Holiday Passes Through Assembly, Now In Senate

The AB 268 bill, introduced by Assemblymembers Ash Kalra and Darshana Patel aims to recognize the significance of the festival among the Indian diaspora.

“Diwali, a festival of great significance to Indian Americans and South Asian Americans, is celebrated annually by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains throughout the United States and across the globe,” the bill reads in its current, amended form.
