Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath

Assemblymember Tasha Boerner HorvathLast weekend a deadly shooting took place at the Chabad of Poway, right here in North San Diego County. No one should lose their life in a senseless act of gun violence - not at our places of worship, not at our schools and not in our public spaces. My entire family's thoughts and prayers are with those killed and injured.

In times like these, we must come together as a community and comfort one another, protect one another, and act in unison with one another. We will not tolerate the hate, the xenophobia, anti-semitism and the misuse of guns to hurt one another. We must also take steps to address the root causes of gun violence.

This is why I am a proud co-author of AB 893 with Todd Gloria to ban the sale of guns and ammunition at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We know that there are many responsible gun owners and retail sellers who follow the law. This bill will not affect them. But the state cannot - and should not - be in the business of profiting from the sale of guns and ammunition on our state property in Del Mar. This is one of many steps we must take to protect our community.

In times of darkness, we must be the light - be kind to one another, reach a hand out to others who are less fortunate, and find strength in our neighbors, family, friends and community.

Thank you for all you do to make our community better!

ICYMI: in case you missed it...

Last week, at a press conference I spoke in support of AB 1314, legislation I have co-authored, to ensure students in California have access to debt-free college by reforming the Cal Grant Program to remove age limitations for recipients and allow Cal Grants to be used for books and cost of living in addition to tuition. This is especially important for our veterans who may serve multiple tours of duty and previously could have aged out of Cal Grant eligibility.
